History of Libraries

The position of Head of the Central Library, when it was first established in 1982 according to Decree No. 06/SK/YKS-PUP/IV/1982, was entrusted to Luhut Simanjuntak, Sm., Hk. He was directly responsible to the Rector. The library’s function was to support, facilitate, and enhance the quality of the University’s programs through information services.

In 1986, in addition to acquiring books through purchases, donations were also initiated, including from the Asia Foundation. As the book collection grew, in 1987 the Central Library participated in library processing education. Librarians were also included in computer courses to anticipate the implementation of computerized systems in library services.

In order to improve knowledge in the field of library science and the quality of services, in 1995 the Central Library staff participated in activities including:

  • Seminar and demonstration of the Circulation Program for Library Materials with CSD/ISI at IPB,
  • Library staff training for private universities in the Kopertis Region IV, a collaboration between Kopertis, Unpad, and ITB in Jatinangor,
  • Coordination meetings among librarians at Unpak regarding service improvement and better cooperation between libraries.

At the beginning of 2001, the university leadership made a decision to appoint structural officials in the Central Library. This was driven by the idea to improve staff work quality and clarify the job descriptions of each staff member according to their functions and responsibilities. Based on Decree No. 003/SK/REK/II/2001, dated October 1, 2001, the Head of the Central Library was assisted by:

  • Head of Procurement Section: Henny Setyawati, Dra.
  • Head of Research and Development Section: Eka H. Wardhani, S.H.
  • Head of Cross-Services Section: Maryati, S.S.
  • Head of Administration: Netty K.

With the start of the 2004-2008 term, the university leadership in 2004 decided to refresh the Central Library. Luhut Simanjuntak, S.H. was reassigned to Head of the Student Affairs and Alumni Department (BAAK), and Kameng Bisma, S.H., M.H. was appointed as the new Head of the Central Library. This transfer was outlined in Rector’s Decree No. 36/SK/REK/VI/2004, dated June 17, 2004.
