"Like the heartbeat that keeps rhythm, Unpak's care never stops in making the nation healthier."

UNPAK – The Community Service Team of Universitas Pakuan (UNPAK) successfully conducted a heart health check-up for the community at Posyandu Kemuning 1A, Sukamakmur Village, Ciomas on January 23-24, 2025.

This program aims to raise public awareness about the importance of early heart check-ups, especially for pregnant women and individuals at risk of heart disease.

During pregnancy, heart check-ups for mothers are crucial to ensure the health of both the mother and the fetus. Heart disease can increase the risk of cardiovascular health issues for the mother and jeopardize the safety of the fetus in the long term.

Conditions such as peripartum cardiomyopathy, pregnancy-induced hypertension, heart attacks, arrhythmias, and heart murmurs can occur in pregnant women. Therefore, regular heart check-ups are essential to detect potential heart issues early on.

Recognizing the importance of these check-ups, the Universitas Pakuan community service team conducted a training session on the use of heart examination equipment with the goal of educating the public about the importance of maintaining heart health.

This activity is also based on the results of a 2023 survey, which showed that the community desires socialization on heart health check-ups.

To address this, the community service team introduced portable heart examination equipment that is easy to use, facilitating the community in conducting their own health checks.

This program involved a team from various disciplines who supported one another:

  • Head of Community Service: Apt. Nyayu Siti Aminah Lily Elfrieda, M.Farm, responsible for coordinating with the Posyandu leader and providing socialization about heart disease.

  • Member 1: Yuli Wahyuni, ST., MT, who provided training on the use of heart examination equipment.

  • Member 2: Apt. Aas Sa’adah, M.Farm, who focused on counseling about the importance of heart health based on community independence.

In addition, the team collaborated with several partners at Posyandu Kemuning, who contributed to the smooth running of the activity, including the Posyandu secretary who helped with budgeting and reporting, technical staff who analyzed the questionnaires, and two pharmacy students from Universitas Pakuan, Syifa Nurlyta and Wafa Novia, who assisted in the activity.

Through this activity, the community of Sukamakmur Village, Ciomas, especially the Posyandu cadres, felt greatly helped by the training and heart check-ups provided.

According to the data from the questionnaires filled out by the participants, most of the residents revealed that they did not have access to heart examination equipment at their local Posyandu.

Therefore, the presence of this program was enthusiastically received and had a positive impact on the community.

The main objectives of this community service program are:

  • To support healthcare workers in providing heart health check-ups to the community.

  • To conduct early heart check-ups to detect potential heart disease and prevent further risks.

  • To provide portable heart examination equipment that enables healthcare workers to perform checks with greater efficiency.

  • To educate the community about the importance of maintaining heart health and ways to reduce the risk of heart disease.

  • To organize training and socialization on the use of heart examination equipment for Posyandu cadres, pregnant women, and the general public.

  • To improve the quality of public health services through Posyandu in Sukamakmur Village, Ciomas.

This activity is expected to bring long-term benefits to public health by providing easier, more efficient, and low-cost access to heart health check-ups.

The Universitas Pakuan community service team hopes to continue contributing to creating a healthier Indonesian society by raising awareness and empowering the community to take care of their heart health.
