Reference Service is the provision of assistance to library users in finding information by answering questions using reference collections, as well as providing guidance on how to find and use reference materials.

The Reference Service at the UNPAK Central Library is provided with the following objectives:

• To enable library users to find information quickly and accurately.
• To allow users to explore information with a broader range of options.
• To help users make better use of the appropriate reference collections.

The functions of the reference service are:

1. Information: Providing answers to users’ questions regarding information.
2. Guidance: Assisting users in finding the right books related to their areas of interest.
3. Orientation: Giving directions and assistance to users on how to use the library and other reference collections.
4. Supervision: Monitoring to create an efficient workflow in library services that makes things easier.
5. Bibliography: Compiling bibliographies or lists of publications for users’ needs and for library purposes.
6. Evaluation: Assessing the reference materials or collections to ensure maximum utility.

The reference service at the UNPAK Central Library uses an open service technique, where each user can directly take reference materials from the shelves. The types of services provided in the reference section include:

• Loan Service for Reference Collections: These collections can only be read on-site and are not available for borrowing to take home.
• Information Service: Providing information to users who inquire about the library, its collections, and its services.
• Answering Reference Questions: Providing assistance to users who need information about a specific topic, answered using the reference collections available.
• Photocopy Service (with the requirement to leave original ID/KTP): Allowing users to photocopy the necessary information from reference materials.
• Search Assistance: Providing help to locate a specific collection needed by the user.
